AMSASCW Library Automation: A Beacon of Knowledge and Innovation
The AMSASCW Library, established in 1968, is a cornerstone of academic excellence, centrally located within our campus. Spanning 658 sq. ft., the library houses an impressive collection of 37,905 books and 24,220 titles, meticulously curated to meet the intellectual needs of our 1,580 users, including students and faculty. This treasure trove of knowledge is complemented by 29 current journals, ensuring that the latest academic developments are always within reach.
With seating for 90 visitors, the library provides a conducive environment for scholarly pursuits, fostering a culture of learning, teaching, and research across various disciplines. As a proud participant in the digital age, our library is equipped with cutting-edge facilities and technologies, including a fully integrated Library Management System (ILMS).
Embracing Technology for Enhanced User Experience / OPAC
The library’s transition to automation marks a significant leap forward, streamlining operations and enhancing user experience. The implementation of an Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) allows users to search for books and resources efficiently, using parameters such as author, subject, title, ISBN, and keywords. This intuitive interface not only enables users to check the availability of books but also allows them to reserve books online with ease. User can access Online Public Access Catalogue from any computer connected to the LAN.
BARCODE TECHNOLOGY
Barcode technology has revolutionized our book circulation process, making the charging and discharging of books swift and seamless. As an active member of NEWGENLIB, the library leverages advanced tools to manage its resources effectively, ensuring that both students and faculty can access the materials they need with minimal hassle.
Expanding Horizons with E-Resources
Through our participation in the N-LIST project, funded by the Ministry of HRD, we extend our library’s reach beyond its physical boundaries. This initiative provides access to a vast array of e-resources, including over 2,154 e-journals and 51,746 e-books from leading publishers around the world. Our users—students, researchers, and faculty alike—can now explore a wealth of scholarly content from any location.
To ensure that our users fully benefit from these resources, the library offers comprehensive guidance and support. Orientation programs are regularly conducted to familiarize students and staff with our digital resources and remote access capabilities. Additionally, our library’s website serves as a gateway to this vast collection, providing essential information on services, rules, and the full breadth of our offerings.

LIBRARY RULES
- Each under graduate student is provided with 3 cards. A student can borrow one book on each library card for duration of 2 weeks
- Books borrowed by the students can be renewed for another 2 weeks, if the book is not much in demand.
- Overdue charges of Rs.0.50 paisa per book per day will be collected for the students after the expiry of the due date.
- Readers are required to deposit their bags / belongings at the property counter before entering the library
- If a book is lost, the librarian has the power to decide whether the book has to be replaced or a fine is to be paid by the borrower. The fine could be up to six times the book’s current value, in addition to handing charges.
LIBRARY ORIENTATION
To introduce the fresh batch of students to the librarian Orientation Programme will be conducted by the librarian and the supporting staff.
REMOTE ACCESS
The College library subscribes to the UGC’s INFLIB Net and NLIST e-Resources so that remote access is possible. Students and staff have access to a varied collection of books and journals of different publications online. The information and link needed to access the library resources is provided to the students and staff. Students are oriented on how to link to the library resources remotely during the library induction programme. INFLIB Net and NLIST e-Resources are the software that predominantly facilitates access to the library remotely.

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCS)
A massive open online course (MOOC) is an online course aimed at unlimited participation and open access via the web. In addition to traditional course materials such as filmed lectures, readings, and problem sets, many MOOCs provide interactive user forums to support community interactions between students, professors, and teaching assistants (TAs). MOOCs are a recent development in distance education which was first introduced in 2008 and emerged as a popular mode of learning in 2012.

NPTEL provides E-learning through online Web and Video courses in Engineering, Science and humanities streams. The mission of NPTEL is to enhance the quality of engineering education in the country by providing free online courseware. Recently NEPTL started online courses also in different subjects.

EdX is a massive open online course (MOOC) provider and online learning platform. It hosts online university-level courses in a wide range of disciplines to a worldwide audience, some at no charge. It also conducts research into learning based on how people use its platform. It is an organization established by MIT and Harvard University that will develop an open-source technology platform to deliver online courses. EdX will support Harvard and MIT faculty in conducting research on teaching and learning on campus through tools that enrich classroom and laboratory experiences.

Moodle: www.moodle.org Moodle is a learning platform designed to provide educators, administrators and learners with a single robust, secure and integrated system to create personalised learning environments. Moodle, is a highly flexible, free software, open source learning platform. With comprehensive, customisable and secure learning management features, it can be used to create a private website for dynamic online courses.
Saylor Foundation: http://www.saylor.org Saylor Foundation offers complete, freely accessible packages for college-level courses in business, science, math, engineering, the humanities, and the social sciences. Courses are designed to be easily used by students who are working entirely on their own, outside of any formal educational system. Each course is made up of a syllabus, links to free online readings, multimedia resources and tutorials, assignments, and exams. Quantitative assessment is available for those who have set up an account.
