ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

VISION:

Commerce Department endeavors to impart quality education and to build a strong base for pioneering studies across various fields. The aim is to turn out talent with global vision, worldwide employability, and leadership position in all knowledge base sectors.

MISSION:

To promote institutions of higher learning in various fast emerging knowledge-based disciplines, for the talented youth where they can:

1. Acquire most advanced knowledge in their respective disciplines.
2. Manifest their creative potentials through project work and applications.
3. Develop holistic competence with global vision, local interface, societal orientation, industrial applicability.

Best practices, Uniqueness, Innovative Ideas:

Best Practices:

• Bridge Courses are conducted in the first year to bridge the gap between the commerce and non-commerce students. The objective is to lay foundation on the subjects and bring new ideas and thoughts in understanding the subjects easily.
• A Departmental Library is established where faculty and economically backward students can take the books for reference.
• Entrepreneurship Development Cell was established with an aim to make the students a job creator rather than a job seeker. The cell conducts programs to equip the students with entrepreneurship skills to start and run their own business initiatives.
• Industrial Visits are organized with an aim to go beyond academics, provide students a practical perspective on the world of work and an opportunity to learn practically through interaction, working methods, and employment practices.

1. Curriculum revised by the department in all Commerce & Management papers during past five years.
2. CBCS is introduced in 2011-12 for degree (B.Com- General/Computer).
3. B.Com (Business Analytics) was introduced in the year 2020-21.
4. B.Com (Tax Procedures) was introduced in the year 2021.
5. PPT presentation, Seminars and QUIZ.

Innovative Practices:

Students’ skills and knowledge are assessed through:

• Regular interactions and continuous monitoring.
• Group activities and Group Discussions.

• Project works are conducted, and students are guided.

Students Support and Progression:

Coordinators and faculties as mentors and guides regularly interact with students and guide and support them in academic and non-academic activities. Faculty members contact and interact with parents as and when required.

The Commerce Department was established in 1968, and it is the first women’s college to introduce B.Com in Andhra Pradesh.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES:

To develop Entrepreneurial Skills through practical exercises and theoretical knowledge, social consciousness among students, and conceptual knowledge of financial accounting. Additionally, to develop time management skills, which are important in today’s fast-paced environment, improve communication, learn from the management experiences of others, understand management concepts, explore organizational culture, networking, and practical skills. Finally, it aims to build students’ self-confidence and dedicated approach.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES:

B.Com (General/ Computers/ Business Analytics/ Tax Procedures)

This program aims to provide students with specific knowledge and skills relevant to their disciplines and careers. It also satisfies the educational entrance requirements for membership of relevant professional bodies. To demonstrate and understand the principles of Accounting, Finance, Economics, Taxation, Management, and Business law.

The general objective of this course is to provide a broad and interactive introduction to the theories and practice of accounting, finance, economics, taxation, management, and business law. In particular, the course focuses on the basic areas of the management process and functions from an organizational point of view.

• To inculcate writing skills and business correspondence.
• To create awareness of law and legalizations related to commerce and business.
• To introduce recent trends in business, organizations, and industries.

• 20-1-2019 Represented as Rangareddy District player in the 66th Senior Inter District Championship 2019. She secured Third Position.
• 21-1-2019 and 25-1-2019 Organized assembly by students.
• 13-2-2019 Participated in inter college tournament for women at Kasturbha Gandhi Degree and PG College for Women and secured Third Position.
• 15-2-2019 Organized assembly in the college.
• 19-3-2021 Meeting organized at Gandhi Bhavan through online mode (Free conference app).
• 4-2-2022 Competition and discussion on the importance of Business Analytics and its future by Sri Pardhasaradhi, Professor from Shiva Shivani Institute conducted for 150 students, with 6 students winning prizes.
• 15-2-2022 Organized a program with Sunshine Academy in collaboration with AMS Science College for Women. Tree plantation programme was conducted, and 50 saplings were planted in the college premises. All students from Commerce and Management participated.
• 15-2-2022 to 5-3-2022 Organized a Certification Program: ‘Communication and Soft Skill Training’ in collaboration with ‘NIMSME’, Hyderabad under the National SC/ST Hub Scheme. 120 students benefited from the certification.
• 16-10-2022 Organized an extension lecture to students on Income Tax Accountant and Duties by AVS. Sai Akhilesh (CA).
• 17-10-2022 Conducted a 1-week Induction Program for 1st-year students. All the resource persons were from the educational sector and industry, including Surya Praveen, Mallesh (SI Hyd Police), Medha Naiwadekar, Hema Jain, Dr. Prateek, Jayawanth Naidu.
• 6-11-2022 Organized a webinar on “Employment Opportunities and its area” by Bhogavalli Mallikarjuna Guptha (CMA).
• 15-2-2022 Organized an Industrial Training Program for developing employability skills of the students by Mr. Jaywant, CA and member of HMA in college premises. 65 students attended the program.
• 4-5-2022 to 15-5-2022 Conducted a 5-day FDP in Business Analytics, which was very beneficial for all the 6th-semester students of B.Com (Business Analytics). Resource persons included Swapnil, Sagar, Smrithi, Durga Prasad, Brijesh. 50 faculty members participated in the FDP program.
